Good service from Alliance & Leicester
I opened an account with them recently, and got a weird letter saying that online banking registration had failed due to incorrect details. Since I hadn't tried to register for online banking, I thought the Bad People who live at my family's old house were up to their identity fraud tricks again.
It turned out that A&L's systems were not quite doing The Right Thing, so I wrote (on real paper!) to complain about this shoddiness and its effect on their and my costs. I asked if they could advise me that they'd taken the issue on board.
Here we are two weeks later, and I've just got a hand-signed letter stating that the manager of online banking is on the case. The wording is mostly boilerplate, but they definitely got the message. Replies like this are usually 100% platitudes, so well done A&L for actually listening to your customers.
