Too late, you say?

From Newsweek, June 30 1997, cover story "uk.com - Can Microsoft Turn Britain Into Europe's Tech Capital?", interview with Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer:

Q: Are there any other companies that could still come along and eat your lunch?
Ballmer: It's still ludicrous that nobody's ever made a run at us by making UNIX a popular server platform on PCs. It's almost too late now.
Gates: It's too late.
Ballmer: OK, it's either too late or almost too late. But there's been a hole.

Gates totally drops the ball, Ballmer makes a slight recovery.
